Sounded Like Love to Me: Why I create art

My mom and step-dad visiting me at Rich Haines Gallery in Park City
I know right out of the box that this will probably only be read by 8 - 10 of you out there. That's fine. What matters is that this blog entry is relevant to my motives, and that kind of insight helps me remember why I put in the hours to try and do this well.

If you know Chico, the city I grew up in (located in the near center of the top square of California), you know that it can have serious rain that comes in off the coast. I mean ... serious rain. Big rain. It can stay for days on end sometimes.

I love rain.

Now that you've identified a wall in your home or office that could use artwork, there are a few ways to find out what would work perfectly there. Here's how:

CONSIDER LARGE ART FOR AVERAGE-SIZED WALLS

Installation of a large sized 7'x5' painting onto a small entry wall
As you may know, I love painting on large canvases.

Why large art?

Well, it's simple: #LargeArt makes an impression. It makes a statement. It compliments a space in a big way.

I don't paint large exclusively, but so often it is the solution that buyers are looking for, and large paintings are not as common as smaller ones.

HOW TO CHOOSE ART THAT'S JUST RIGHT

Sweet, sweet pain.

You have a wall that needs the final touch of a painting to be hung in that perfect location.
It is a problem to be solved, but it usually isn't a problem that is distressing like a sink that's clogged. It is a problem where the solution can be a key part of the fun of the final solution.
It's sweet pain!

There is a weird sort of joy in the search. Looking for that great art solution is part of the fun.

THAT is key: Getting to the solution.

You kind of know what you like, but don't know where to find it.
You are going to visit where the #art is.
Even though you don't know exactly what you want, you are on a treasure hunt, and you will know it when you see it.

If you are constantly in the mode of looking and looking and not committing, you probably need a little help.

Here is my suggestion to help move the process along:

Art Solutions for Odd-Sized Wall Spaces

Paintings solve problems.

Here's my best advice on how art works its magic:

If you have #oddsizedwalls in your home or office, there's a very good chance that:

1. They lack some punch
2. They present a design problem because regular sized art doesn't fit there
3. The distraction of this problem grows every time you walk by

There's a good reason why this odd-wall space issue bothers you: you know instinctively that the space is incomplete without art, but there seems to be no easy solution.

There is a simple solution, and I will show you how.
