Sounded Like Love to Me: Why I create art

My mom and step-dad visiting me at Rich Haines Gallery in Park City
I know right out of the box that this will probably only be read by 8 - 10 of you out there. That's fine. What matters is that this blog entry is relevant to my motives, and that kind of insight helps me remember why I put in the hours to try and do this well.

If you know Chico, the city I grew up in (located in the near center of the top square of California), you know that it can have serious rain that comes in off the coast. I mean ... serious rain. Big rain. It can stay for days on end sometimes.

I love rain.

There's a feeling like everyone is somehow

8'x5' Commission Work Installed

Garden Path - Installed at Alpine Art Center
Garden Path
8'x5'5"
Acrylic on Gallery Wrap Canvas

This is a commissioned work by the Alpine Art Center in Alpine, Utah.

The objective was to create a large-format piece featuring a garden area that had become overgrown. It was created to fit a large wall adjacent the main entry that would becomes a focal piece in the reception area.

Vaulted walls such as these can certainly evoke a sense of scale, but they can also be difficult to fit the overall design of the space without well-thought-out art or decorations built for the space. In this case, the interior design of the reception area features a

Anstead Art - Introducing the Landmark Series

THE IDEA IS SIMPLE:

Bring together themes and local landmarks into one piece of art.

These pieces have evolved from my early paintings on the theme. I have rendered many paintings of Park City and Deer Valley areas as well as snow sports and the athletes who perform there.

Now, this is the natural next step in showing the town and the sports I love … done in a completely new way.

I could describe to the slightest detail on

Anstead Painting - Snowboarders and Park City Landmarks in Art

Let's face it …

Snowboarders are gnarly.

THEY TOTALLY ARE!

They are winter sports savvy but they are surfing more than they are skiing.

PLUS - they have an attitude. They are counterculture and that makes them cool by definition, these days.

What is more counterculture than shredding powder trails all around the provincial skiing community!

Why paint snowboarders?

Thank you to my first studio - 100 year old Harrington School

Here's my first studio … a classroom in the old Harrington School in downtown American Fork. It was
just me, all alone, in a 100-year-old schoolhouse of probably 100k square feet of ghostly excellence.

This blog entry is my tip-of-the-cap to the best place I can think of to start my painting career. I painted there for about 6 months, starting in

Art Innovations - Part 2: New pieces in development right now

Here is the next step (Step 4) in the creation of these new pieces.

The point is that the more grunge the better.

One more key step and I will post them when they are done.

Why vintage bikes are a great subject to paint

"Four wheels move the body. Two wheels move the soul."
- Unknown

There are few manmade objects that are as beautiful as a bike.

#Harley-Davidson motorcycles, specifically, are remarkable.
A beautiful frame, options to sit low, extended out, and built to be appreciated.
Do you hear that? The motor makes that sound ... a sound that is copyrighted.

I have create paintings of mostly vintage bikes and that's because
